D&I reporting for a large corporation can turn into lip service fast — a glossy document full of good intentions and not much else. For 3M, that wasn't an option. We worked directly with senior executives and dug into unaggregated data to find the real story: the specific, measurable progress the organization had made in increasing representation of women and people of color in STEM and leadership roles. The goal was honest reporting that could speak credibly to employees, candidates, and stakeholders alike — people who can tell the difference. It won the Ragan Communications Award for Diversity Reporting in 2020.
